Festival - Rice Dumpling Festival (Bak Chang)

From top left side, clockwise: Teo Chew Salted (meat, green bean, egg with white glutenious rice), Black pepper chicken, Hokkien Salted (meat, chestnut, egg with black glutenious rice), vegetarian (mock meat), kee chang (empty and to be eaten with kaya or sugar). There is the nonya one too (minced meat: spicy or non spicy) but not in the picture liao ..

Bak chang festival background:
Zongzi is traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival (Mandarin: Duanwu; Cantonese: Tuen Ng) which falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar (approximately early- to mid-June), commemorating the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period. Known for his patriotism, Qu Yuan tried unsuccessfully to warn his king and countrymen against the expansionism of their Qin neighbors. When the Qin Dynasty general Bai Qi took Yingdu, the Chu capital, in 278 BC, Qu Yuan's grief was so intense that he drowned himself in the Miluo river after penning the Lament for Ying. According to legend, packets of rice were thrown into the river to prevent fish from eating the poet's body. Another version states that zongzi were given to placate a dragon that lived in the river.

Lychee frostie .. with the lychee on the straw.. So you have to eat the lychee before starting to get the drink.. Nice... Wonder they do the same thing for the longan frostie.. :)
Ice lemon drink .. Nice... I think have other things in the drink other than lemon.. It is not sour at all :)
Masala tea .. inside the pot have all sorts of seeds and seasoning including cinnamon and cardamom (I think) ..

Depp fried river shrimp with the seasoning salt at the side. The prawns are really tiny so you can eat everything and don't have to peel. Very nice .. Ordered 2 of these :)
Fried shisamo with the tartar sauce in the middle and the salad at the bottom. Its placed in wine glass.. Good presentation!
2 servings of salmon sashimi with the fresh cucumber and wasabi at the side. The bottom of the bowl is all ice to keep the salmon cold and fresh I guess :)

This is the Paulaner light beer .. 0.5 litres mug

Tastes nice and not too bitter.. the dark version is more bitter.. in my opinion :)
